The Ultimate LEGO Vehicle Contest
ULVC 5: 22 July 2006

The Aesthetics Contest
Continuing with the rule-changes implemented at the last ULVC, the Aesthetics Contest remained an important balance to the Structural Integrity contest, making sure brawn in absence of beauty would not be too highly rewarded.

Top Performers:
1) Lila's Straberry of DOOM
2) Brendan's 2001: A Lopsided Odyssey
3) Kathy's Oppression of Colonial India

The Speed Contest
With ramps that were twice the length of the previous ULVC, this year's Speed Contest offered twice the thrills. And for the first time ever, the excitement was caught on video too.

Satyam's Nodnol whisks down the ramp for an easy victory over Brendan's lumbering, unstable two-wheeler.

But Satyam's vehicle cannot match the raw speed of Sean's Toot-Can-Ham-It.

The double-length ramp propelled some vehicles to dangerous speeds, as we see here when Kathy's vehicle crashes into the camera after losing a close race to Sean in the final round.

Not all vehicles managed to navigate the ramps so well. In fact, this lucky first round win was the only time Brendan's Lopsided Odyssey made it down the full length of the double track without suffering the same fate as Lila's Strawberry of DOOM.

The ramp's trickiness led to some entertaining races, such as when Kate learned that an early lead does not guarantee victory, much to J-VEQ's delight.

And when both Mark and Lila's vehicles crashed and burned at the same time, it became anyone's race.

J-VEQ and Lila battle it out for 5th place in a calamitous race for the finish.
